oh, Scarlett.

(ignore the talentless thing on the right)
Scarlett, you know I'll love you forever. All it took was Lost in Translation. But, take it from one of your most ardent supporters: you were so much better when you were an actress and not a product of hype, like here in the despicable Ghost World (in which you were great). Your performances in Scoop and The Prestige were hardly bad, but when you're in 230580584698 movies like you were last year, I'd expect Girl with a Pearl Earring-level brilliance in at least one of them...

happy birthday michael caine!!!

one of my very favorites. :) I have no idea how he got that Oscar in '99 (the worst of the nominees by miles) but his speech was absolutely fantastic and his win in '86 was not a travesty and he should have won all the way back in friggin' 1964, so we will excuse him. Anyway, in 2006 he proved he still rocks with The Prestige and Children of Men, and is it totally wrong that I want to see the approximately sixteen thousandth remake of his career with Sleuth in 2008 (that said - why does Jude Law keep getting his old parts? Jude Law is ten quadjillion times hotter than Michael Caine ever was)?

Yay Michael! May you live another 72 years.

this is the coolest poster ever

ummm. WHAT an amazing poster. the compression kinda makes it lose its effect though, so click here for a better image.

anyway, remember when i promised a review of this movie back on november 22? yeah. well, the prestige was definitely not what i was expecting. in fact, it's a very very disturbing movie. i think that, and the fact that i wasn't expecting it at all, knocks it down a few pegs in my mind, but it's certainly not a bad movie...the twists are just...um, wow. good for nolan for making twists that YOU CAN'T SEE COMING. it also has good production values and is overall well-acted. but i dunno...it really freaked me out. i don't know why. also, i was promised that hugh jackman was shirtless "practically the whole movie" and then he was shirtless in two brief scenes. ew. LIAR! B- but that might just be because i was trying to be harsh
