If you weren't watching the Fox game this afternoon, before the game, they had this little montage of baseball players/managers being asked their answer to the question of which one player all-time they would take to start a franchise. Let me repeat that: which one player all time. All time. ALL TIME. ALL TIME. Did I say that enough?
Only one player picked Babe Ruth. Only one picked Willie Mays. Only one picked Hank Aaron. No one picked Ted Williams. No one picked Ty Cobb. No one picked Barry Bonds. No one picked Mantle, Musial, Gehrig, Wagner...
TWO PEOPLE PICKED JOE MAUER. FREAKING TWO!!!!!!! Now, Joe Mauer, provided he stays healthy and/or doesn't fall off a cliff based on nothing or wearing down, is going to have an amazing career at an absolutely premium position. BUT HE IS NOT THE GREATEST BASEBALL PLAYER OF ALL TIME. YOU ALL ARE REALLY DUMB.
Andy Pettitte picked Mariano Rivera. Now Andy is very sweet in doing this and he warms my heart and all, but c'mon, Andy, he's a relief pitcher.
JONATHAN PAPELBON made more sense than these people in picking Cy Young. SERIOUSLY!
