It's funny, I didn't think Milk was going to get in at all (the film struck me as very American, with all the Prop 6 stuff that was going on in the film and the Prop 8 stuff that was going on in real life), and oh DUH I should have known they would like Frost/Nixon, it's about a freaking BRITISH journalist after all. I really should have gone for The Reader over Revolutionary Road in my predictions, that was stupid of me (when in doubt with the BAFTAs, go for the more British film!).

Other than that, really no surprises (Daldry's British, so I never really consider random British people showing up at the BAFTAs surprising, because there's always like 4 people like that every year).

I like that BAFTA always corrects the category fraud that the Oscars perpetuate, hah. It's nice to see Hathaway be snubbed for once during this awards season to be honest, and it's always nice to see Cate Blanchett be snubbed for anything. I hope Winslet's double nominations here don't cost her the win, but I think most voters will go for her in The Reader if they go for her at all. Also, and I just noticed this, WHERE THE HELL IS SALLY HAWKINS?! Snubbed by the BAFTAs? Does this mean she's not as beloved as we thought????

OMG! I'm sooooo thrilled Pitt got in for Burn After Reading, I thought he was fucking hilarious and awesome and he's my #2 of the year after Heath Ledger. Yeah, I haven't seen that many movies this year, but I have seen quite a few with widely-praised supporting actor turns (Tropic Thunder, Milk). Still, Heath will probably win this... not because he died, but because he deserves it.

Yes. It looks hilarious, and I've officially been pulled in by the Coen brothers again, after years of being ridiculously uneven. And I love the poster!

19. Eagle Eye
I wasn't even aware this was a movie until this article. Shia LaBeouf is, by law, always the best part about a bad movie (still haven't seen that fourth Indiana Jones movie though, whoopsy-daisy). So, this seems to infer it'll be bad. My girl Rosario's in it though, so.

18. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
Michael Cera playing "cute" again (but OMG, gay cute! what range!) and a really dumb, "LOOK HOW QUIRKY WE ARE" synopsis? I'm not rushing out to see this one, but who knows. I thought Juno looked terrible from the trailer.

17. Body of Lies
Even though Ridley's latest work has been lackluster, I'll gladly see anything starring Leo and Russell, and written by William Monahan (I can't get over how amazing The Departed's screenplay was). I think this might be a return to form for Ridley, but I thought that about Kingdom of Heaven and American Gangster too, so.

16. W.
It looks really interesting, if nothing else, and holy hell it's got such an amazing cast (how'd I miss Dreyfuss, Bradford, Gruffud, and especially Wright being cast?!?!). It's Oliver Stone, though, so it may be ludicrously uneven or incredibly unsubtle. We'll see.

15. High School Musical 3: Senior Year
Heh. Not seeing it. That said, I've sat through the original so many times as a camp counselor I think I could recite it by heart.

14. Changeling
I always look forward to Clint Eastwood's films in the new millennium. They're usually excellent, and even if they're not they're at least interesting.

13. Zack and Miri Make a Porno
I love you, Seth Rogen. I'm tired of you, Kevin Smith. It does look cute, though. I think I'll try to see it.

12. Rachel Getting Married
I like the trailer (even if it is far too Margot at the Wedding), but Anne Hathaway is the lamest of the lame. Who knows, though, she could finally impress me. (Pfft.)

11. Quantum of Solace
I'm never like "YEAH!!! JAMES BOND!!!" but Daniel Craig is awesome at the role and Casino Royale was terrific. I'll be there.

10. Australia
I keep forgetting this movie's coming out. I don't think that's a good thing for Baz "ATTENTION PLEASE!!!" Luhrmann, and I'm wary of his non-musical movies. That said, it could still be awesome.

9. The Road
I don't know how they're going to pull this off, but I hope they do. The book is so damn good, though...

8. Synecdoche, New York
I wondered what the hell happened to this when its many release dates passed and no one talked about it. It's got an amazing cast and what might be one of the best screenwriters of all time - what's not to look forward to? I'm drooling.

7. The Soloist
This movie looks lame. Joe Wright, though, is not the type to make sappy Oscar bait. And it's got Robert Downey Jr., who I love, and I hope it's a return to form for Jamie Foxx, who was awesome in 2004 and 2005, but decided to suck in every single movie since then.

6. Four Christmases
Wasn't this the movie where Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon were constantly at each others' throats while filming? I wanna see this movie just to see if they even somewhat pass as a couple or just blatantly hate each other. I'm hoping the latter, because I'll giggle.

5. Defiance
Edward Zwick's movies are generally terrible, but the Academy fawns all over them, so they're almost always required viewing during the awards season. At least the three leads are massively talented.

4. Twilight
I don't care about these books (though I've read some excerpts which are hilariously bad), and I really don't care about this movie.

3. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
It looks really interesting. Fincher's a terrific director. I'm excited!

2. Marley & Me
This is another movie I wasn't aware existed. It looks like a stupid sort of biopic starring two mediocre actors. I think it's a "skip it"... but, for completion, I'll probably end up seeing it.

God, yes, please. I'm afraid it's going to fail, but who knows. I sure as hell hope it's brilliant. I've come to expect it from Kate and Leo. LOVE them, especially together!

For Your Emmy Consideration.

So I'm not sure how much y'all know about the Emmys, but apparently, from what I understand, for the acting categories, they all have to submit an episode, which gets shown with only the chosen actor's parts in it, which is what the Emmy voters use for nomination and voting on the final five. For best overall series, they have to submit six half hours. It sounds confusing and stupid, but I guess it's unfair to ask a voter to watch a bazillion episodes of many television shows that they have no interest in. So, I came up with some suggestions for what The Office and its actors could submit for Emmy consideration for Season 4.

Lead Actor in a Comedy Series
Steve Carell (Michael Scott): Goodbye Toby
The Deposition and Money are also very good choices. Each gives him a boatload of screentime and great comedic acting, and he's also got big dramatic and sympathetic moments in all of them. I almost chose Money for "I. DECLARE. BANKRUPTCYYY!!!!" but then again, if Rainn submits Money, watching the same episode twice (albeit with somewhat different parts) might not go well with the voters. And Goodbye Toby does have "I'll kill you," which basically kills me every time I watch it. They should not submit Dunder-Mifflin Infinity, because the screaming will turn off people who don't watch the show on a regular basis.

Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
Leslie David Baker (Stanley Hudson): Did I Stutter?
Obviously. That last scene with him and Michael really is an utter killer, though.

Brian Baumgartner (Kevin Malone): Chair Model
Another obvious one. His part in Goodbye Toby is obviously hysterical, and I'm almost tempted to recommend it instead, but his part in Chair Model has more depth and backstory.

Creed Bratton (...Creed Bratton): Dunder-Mifflin Infinity
I don't think he has a chance, but in this one you get his usual insanity combined with that little undercurrent of him being worried about new technology. Maybe Survivor Man, just for the dance around the room.

Ed Helms (Andy Bernard): Launch Party
He sings! He's got a bullhorn! HE STOLE IT! Chair Model's another option.

John Krasinski (Jim Halpert): Branch Wars
Apparently there's a massive push to get him a nomination, so yay. There was last year, too, from what I've read, but he submitted the wrong episode (Business School?!?!?! Okay the vampire thing is funny, but WHHHYYYYY???!!!), which sunk his chances. Branch Wars is an obvious choice; I read somewhere else that when the car pulls into the Utica lot, you can "see his heart eating itself." Plus, I think in her "awesome stuff of 2007" list on her blog, Mindy Kaling noted his performance in that episode. Goodbye Toby might be an option, too, because he goes through about a billion emotions in it. Both Branch Wars and Goodbye Toby conjure up tons of sympathy toward Jim, too.

Paul Lieberstein (Toby Flenderson): Goodbye Toby
He might as well take the episode with his name in it, right? Night Out is another option, but it might weird out or confuse voters who don't watch the show.

BJ Novak (Ryan Howard): Night Out
His big episode, obviously, and also the only one in which he's in any way sympathetic. He could always submit Dinner Party or Chair Model ;) (he should submit the latter... for writing)

Oscar Nunez (Oscar Martinez): Money
His "big episode," I guess. His interaction with Michael is indeed awesome. I also like him in Branch Wars because I think he's the redeeming factor in making the Finer Things Club not a total wash (along with Andy trying to get in). He doesn't really have a lot of screen time in many episodes, but he's got a bazillion killer one-liners/talking heads.

Craig Robinson (Darryl Philbin): Did I Stutter?
Again, I guess. Did you know he originally tried out for Jim? And John Krasinski originally tried out for Dwight? And Angela Kinsey originally tried out for Pam?

Rainn Wilson (Dwight Schrute): Money
Much like Steve in this episode, this gives him lots of screentime, a bunch of comedy, and some really great sympathetic scenes. Submitting stuff like Fun Run or Dunder-Mifflin Infinity might weird out non-viewers.

Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series
Jenna Fischer (Pam Beesly): Job Fair
Even those who seem to dislike FNB like her in Job Fair, and she's pretty awesome between the snarking at Michael and the Jim-inspiring and the looking for an art job and all that. I heard she submitted Fun Run a while back (they can submit episodes early on and change them up to May 31), and that's also a good choice, from the sex tape to pepping up Michael.

Kate Flannery (Meredith Palmer): Fun Run
The only episode in which she gets a lot of screentime, really. Unfortunately, a lot of the tertiary characters have no chance, but that's why The Office should win the SAG award for Best Ensemble Cast from now into the future forever.

Melora Hardin (Jan Levinson): Dinner Party
Duh. Oh man, that bitch is crazy.

Mindy Kaling (Kelly Kapoor): Dunder-Mifflin Infinity
That "why not?" after Ryan tells her they're never getting back together really tells you all you ever need to know about Kelly. She could also submit The Deposition as it gives her a lot of screentime, but I'm of the minority opinion that, aside from her talking head about smack talk vs. trash talk, she is so incredibly annoying in that episode. The way some people feel about Michael in Dunder-Mifflin Infinity is the way I feel about Kelly in The Deposition.

Angela Kinsey (Angela Martin): Fun Run
She's as awesome and bitchy and conniving as ever, but way more sympathetic than she is in other episodes. I don't think they should put in a post-strike episode, because the weird purse/desk/copier/etc. placement might confuse non-fans that don't know she was pregnant.

Phyllis Smith (Phyllis Vance): Chair Model
If they include deleted scenes, she could also enter Goodbye Toby, which might also work for Kate/Meredith.

These aren't necessarily my six (five) favorite episodes this season, though I love them all. The darn hour-longs keep messin' me up =/ The second half of Fun Run starts with that adorable "we're dating" scene and the actual fun run employs pretty awesome ensemble work. A lot of people seem to really like Launch Party, and the first half has a lot of the comedy and none of the kidnapping of the pizza boy plot, which goes on too long. Local Ad got nominated for the WGA, so someone there obviously liked it. The last scene, with the employees all being cute and bonding, is just so awesome. Chair Model has great ensemble work too, plus it'll melt the hearts of many a viewer. Goodbye Toby is just great in every way The Office is; it's hysterically funny and twisted, but also really sweet in the best of ways, and incredibly well-acted. I'm dying to include Money because it's just so fucking good, but I can't imagine just including one half and I don't want to cut out Goodbye Toby or the two halves of the hour-longs. Then again, the producers/whoever sends these in could go many ways with the episodes they submit. The only one I would suggest they don't submit is Night Out, because it's both very very dark and very very weird.

Goooo Office!!!! Only a month and a half until Emmy nominations get announced!

BFCA thoughts.

- to quote No Country for Old Men, "you can't stop what's coming." And that would be No Country / the Coens / DDL / Christie / Bardem / Ryan (or maybe Blanchett)...
- Why was no one there??? It's like, the one awards show with an actual waiver!
- Daniel Day-Lewis is incredibly charming. He still freaks me out because I've never seen more than one picture of that man where he looked the same.
- Javier Bardem's speeches were probably the best part of the night. He was hilarious, and the fact that he has problems with English makes his performance in No Country even more outstanding.
- The host was horrible.
- As far as the winners go, I have no real complaints. Yes, there were sometimes nominees I preferred over the winners but nothing made me gasp and go "HOW DARE YOU!!!!!!" except maaaybe Best Young Actor. Ed Sanders deserved it about 100000%.
- Enchanted won something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Oh my God, I felt so bad for poor Marion Cotillard. First, she's like, the only Best Actress nominee to actually show up (okay, her and Ellen Page, but at least Ellen Page got to ride a wave of Juno is the best movie evarrrr!!!! love). Then, the stupid red carpet reporter mis-identifies her as Emily Deschanel and she has to talk about things she probably knows absolutely nothing about. Then, she has to sit there while she loses to someone who wasn't even there (okay, Christie's win was deserving). Poor thing. I had no idea she was so pretty, though. My only reference for her looks is La vie en rose, which I keep trying to block out of my mind, and that still from La vie en rose where she looks kind of like she has to...sneeze, or cry weirdly, or something.
- I still have no desire to see The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. Yeah, I'm sure it's great, but... I dunno... I guess if it gets the DGA/Oscar Best Director nod, I've gotta see it...
- That girl from Hairspray is adorable.
- Was I the only one that didn't think Leslie Mann was that funny?
- Angelina Jolie made the funniest faces ever.
- Can everyone please stop complaining about how "boring" every award season is? Yes, critics tend to agree on certain movies/directors/actors that go on to win the Oscar. But every award season, people act like this is new. Every year, anew, people declare "this is the most boring awards season ever!" Deal with it.
