Errr. Hey there New York Times.

So I'm reading your breakthrough performance edition. The pictures, of course, are both very strange and very gorgeous. Some of these are actual breakthrough stars, while others, I could argue, had their breakthrough years ago (hasn't every year been Sienna Miller's "breakthrough year" since like 2003?). They're all pretty debatable, though. But...but...but. You have Julie Christie in your "breakthrough"? JULIE CHRISTIE??? You do know, she won an Oscar. In 1965.
Oh, and above? The McAvoy. Just because.

further conversations with Keira and James.
Sunday, January 13, 2008
keira, keira, keira.

First things first: this picture is weird.
Secondly: Yeah, I know, this and the cover picture are supposed to be "sexy," but really you just look kind of tired and uncomfortable.
Thirdly: I also know this is trying to recreate the now justifiably famous green dress, but why do you never have a proper shirt on? Even skinny people wear shirts! I do, all the time!
Fourth: I read your interview with James McAvoy in Entertainment Weekly, and Jesus Christ woman, do the two of you ever stop cursing?
Fifth: ...but secretly, I thought it was very endearing...
Sixth: I have no idea how I went from thinking you were an annoying little twit to thinking you'd kind of be fun to go out for drinks with. This is high praise, normally reserved for the likes of ScarJo and Natalie Portman.
Love,
Justine
Seventh: PS: This still doesn't mean you're a great actress. Sorry.

HAHA I WAS JUST TALKING ABOUT THIS

Keira: Just look fierce, James. It always works for me.
James: God, I'm so depressed.
Keira: James! James! Okay, so this cover was clearly planned back in, oh, October, when we were oh-so-obviously going to sweep the Oscars. Just...pretend this is October.
James: So...ignored...
Keira: Does that really say "the most unpredictable season ever?" [ed. note: no, does it? i can't exactly make it out but that's what it looks like] Yeah, well. Tell that to Julie Christie. That BITCH.
James: What happened to my life?
Keira: God, it was so much more fun to pose virtually naked with Scarlett Johansson than with you. Say, do you think she'd be up for cocktails? I mean, she knows all about being snubbed, right? And isn't it weird that she's the one with the BAFTA [ed. note: one of your best calls ever, BAFTA voters] and I'm the one with the Oscar nomination? Does anyone ever think about that besides the creator of this imaginary conversation?
James: (deep, deep, defeated sigh) Did you know I was the lead of Last King of Scotland? No, probably not.
Keira: Come back. Come back to me.
James: (deep, deep defeated sigh) Not helping.

Pretty people are overrated.

James McAvoy was great in Last King of Scotland. However...I've seen people giving him the award/nominating him over Forest Whitaker. WHAT?! And, not for anything, but these people are always straight women or gay men, who usually preface their awards by "he's so HOT!!!! ... and he's good too." Yes, I realize I have my biases too (Clive Owen much), but that's just...what? McAvoy was great but he can't touch Whitaker. Oh, and I like how one person was like "he stole the show from Whitaker!" Um, well, a. that's just not true and b. his role was meant to be THE lead. Whitaker stole it from him.
In conclusion, if Steve Buscemi or John C. Reilly were playing Nicholas Garrigan, and gave the exact same peformance, they would be totally ignored. But, because a hot guy does it, everyone is like "OMG HE'S BETTER THAN THE UGLY GUY!!!!"
...or maybe this entry was just an excuse to show a picture of McAvoy's sweet, sweet ass.
