Big birthday day!
Michelle Pfeiffer, Daniel Day-Lewis, Uma Thurman.
Love DDL, especially after 2007. Uma Thurman is one of my favorite actresses when she's not being terrible, which is sadly not all that often lately. Still, all she really needs is Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction and she's already got two performances most people would die for. Don't care for Michelle Pfeiffer, the praise she gets for Batman Returns still utterly baffles me. She was okay as the cat in full regalia, not anything special but not bad, but she was horrendous as the secretary. Granted, that part of the movie didn't last terribly long, but it still left a sour taste. Recently, people (not a lot, but they're out there) have been giving her noms for Hairspray. WTF?

she JUST GOT a star on Hollywood Boulevard?
I am hardly Michelle Pfeiffer's biggest fan (though just to make some of you happy: she totally deserved the Oscar for The Fabulous Baker Boys for sure, she is awesome in just the trailer for Stardust, and I totally covet that dress she's wearing above), but the fact that she JUST got a star is ludicrous. Shouldn't this have happened in like 1988? I mean, Britney Spears has one already...
Also, why is Jack Lemmon between Lassie and Kevin Costner? Neither is fit to surround his borderline-holy self.

Evening and other assorted thoughts
I'm pretty sure Evening is gonna suck (yet hopefully, I'll still see it this weekend). I mean...movies with that good a cast don't get dumped in July for no reason.
Also, I actually posted on IMDb, for the first time ever. Some post was talking about how there are no good female villain roles and someone was like "but Michelle Pfeiffer is playing two this year alone! OMG she is amazing!!!!" I couldn't help but be like "Velma Von Tussle isn't exactly Lady Macbeth." Here's to many more posts mocking idiot IMDbers!
I'm confused by Hairspray's reception, though. Everyone seems all psyched to love it ahead of time. It's a little like Dreamgirls (only in reverse)... Dreamgirls could have been the best movie ever made and you know there are still people who would hate it.
