Not that Moviefone is great, but here's an interesting list.
TOP TEN SUPPORTING ACTOR PERFORMANCES
10. Robert Downey Jr., Tropic Thunder
I thought he was hilarious. He didn't deserve the Oscar exactly, but he was basically the only reason to watch that movie after the first hour or so.
9. John Travolta, Hairspray
GOD NO. He was really awful. And terrifying.
8. Rip Torn, Dodgeball
Heh, I love this movie, and he's hilarious, but there are a number of other, better choices for this spot.
7. Morgan Freeman, Million Dollar Baby
I'm not so sure I would put him this high but sure. He was terrific.
6. Jackie Earle Haley, Little Children
There was something about this performance I wasn't crazy about, if I'm remembering correctly. But again, it's not a bad choice.
5. Javier Bardem, No Country for Old Men
Hell yes. This movie is what, two years old?, and this performance already became iconic.
4. Ben Kingsley, Sexy Beast
Again, hell yes. I'm glad people are acknowledging this performance, as it's absolutely terrific but in a small movie that not many people saw from the beginning of the decade.
3. Thomas Haden Church, Sideways
Yup. The acting was really superlative in this movie.
2. Tom Wilkinson, Michael Clayton
I'm not sure I'd put him this high, but he was great. Again, another movie with really awesome acting.
1. Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight
Yup yup yup. Even if not for his tragic death, this would still be one of the best performances ever, really. He was so damn good.

YES. I LOVE HER HERE. She'd probably be in my top five supporting actress performances this decade. It was just a balls-out performance. Uh, figuratively speaking, of course.
7. Leslie Mann, Knocked Up
I've come full circle on this movie because now, I totally love it, and I love her in it. There's one line that she delivers that is PRICELESS but I can't think of it now. Grrrr.
6. Mo'Nique, Precious
Haven't seen it.
5. Cate Blanchett, I'm Not There
Y'all know I think she's crazy overrated but I liked her a lot in this movie.
4. Sophie Okenedo, Hotel Rwanda
I liked her a lot in this movie, but she's way too high here. She wasn't that great, though she was very good.
3. Adriana Barraza, Babel
Yay. She was terrific and Rinko Kikuchi sucked. Hey, remember when Babel was gonna make these two BREAKOUT STARS? And then they were never heard from again? Awesome

???? She should not be this high. She was good and all, but I don't even remember her in it.
1. Catherine O'Hara, For Your Consideration
??!?!?!?!? Yeah, she was hilarious, but this is a no for #1. And GOD this movie was so, so bad. Christopher Guest, I am severely disappointed.

She was insanely good in this, yup.
9. Ellen Page, Juno
I'm not sure if she'd be in my top ten, but she really was awesome. I don't think this was an easy role to pull off without coming off as ridiculous, but she did it. She was the heart and soul of this movie and the main reason why it ultimately succeeded.
8. Sienna Miller, Interview
Oh God I love you for including her here. SO GREAT and nobody saw it.
7. Nicole Kidman, Dogville
Ditto.
6. Penelope Cruz, Volver
This performance is really overrated. Good, not great.
5. Charlize Theron, Monster
I'm not sure I would have her SO high on this list, but she was excellent.
4. Kate Winslet, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Abso-friggin'-lutely.
3. Samantha Morton, Minority Report
I love this guy for including Samantha Morton in anything, but this was a supporting role. And she was even better in Morvern Callar the same year as this movie.
2. Julie Christie, Away from Her
I'm not sure she should be this high but at least it's not Marion Cotillard.
1. Diane Lane, Unfaithful
She's way too high, but this performance was just awesome.

He was so awesome in this, and totally against character. He's really the only reason to watch this movie.

I wouldn't put him this high but I fully approve any support of ESotSM, woot.
8. Clint Eastwood, Gran Torino
I don't even remember if I saw Gran Torino or not. It didn't look very good. And heh, if I did see it, I obviously don't remember it.
7. Sean Penn, Mystic River
He was awesome, but he was in no way better than Bill Murray that year. Who does not appear on this list. Boooooo
6. Benicio del Toro, Things We Lost in the Fire
Didn't see it, but I appreciate that whoever did this list is going for some more obscure performances that were really good (Miller, Kidman).
5. Heath Ledger, Brokeback Mountain
Yes. So so so good.
4. Johnny Depp, Pirates of the Caribbean
Sigh. No.
3. Viggo Mortensen, Eastern Promises
Remember that naked wrestling scene? That was awesome. So was he (though I liked him better in A History of Violence).
2. Forest Whitaker, Last King of Scotland
He was awesome here. #2 of the decade, I dunno, but he was just so great.
1. George Clooney, O Brother, Where Art Thou?
#1? Uhhh that'd be a no. But I love the Cloons.
I may do my own list of these, keeping in mind that I feel like I haven't seen bupkiss from the past two years.

I saw it a while ago, and I can't really remember it all that well. I remember it was kind of schmaltzy though. And pickled green tomatoes are where it's at, to be honest.

Urgh...
Is a second Sex and the City movie really necessary? Yes I know it made a grajillion dollars, but I know it's just gonna be the same as the first; Carrie and Big will break up in some dramatic fashion, then get back together at the end. ZZZZ. So,
the only movies I really have any interest in seeing are Revolutionary Road and The Wrestler, and the only movies that I've seen that are likely to play a role in the awards season were Wall-E, The Dark Knight, Vicky Christina Barcelona, and Milk, all of which I adored, Wall-E above all. Oh, and Tropic Thunder. I highly approve RDJ and Tom Cruise being nominated.
Frost/Nixon - zzzz
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - I'm sure this will actually be great, if/when I see it. But for now, I just see long, and Cate Blanchett being all actressy.
The Reader - wasn't crazy about the book
Slumdog Millionaire - I am a cynic.
Happy-Go-Lucky - Okay, I do want to see this, but it's nowhere.
Changeling - zzz, Angelina, and mediocre reviews.
Australia - oh, Baz. Why must you frustrate me so.
Rachel Getting Married - like I'd ever be excited to see an Anne Hathaway movie, but I actually am sort of looking forward to seeing this some time

No, really!
Crossing Over: Never heard of it. I agree with what they wrote, except that with the LA and immigration (IE, race) thing, it sounds way more like Crash than Babel.
Cadillac Records: Whoah, this is coming out this year?!? This is what happens when you don't read movie blogs for like three months. I predict it'll probably go the same way as Dreamgirls...
Frost/Nixon: I'm still waiting for Couric/Palin.
War Zone: Wha?
The Reader: Oh, so this is '08 after all. Kate Winslet owns.
Che: This is '08 too? It's either going to rock, or suck really hard.
The Day The Earth Stood Still: I don't see the need for this.
Doubt: Movies based on plays are very hit and miss especially with relatively inexperienced directors, but with Meryl, Jesus, and PSH, I'm there. Eventually.
Nothing Like the Holidays: Sounds... dumb.
The Wrestler: I thought this was like, 2045 or something, not 2008. Anyway, Darren Aronofsky can do no wrong... unless he goes pretentious.
Gran Torino: Did Changeling or The Changeling or whatever already come out? Is Eastwood pulling a Flags/Iwo Jima thing again, where after his first movie bombs critically, he releases the second one because he "always planned to do that" or whatever?
The Brothers Bloom: This looks hilarious and I wanna see Rachel gettin' funny.
Seven Pounds: Will Smith's usual holiday fluff. I mean that in the best possible way, as the movies are usually extremely enjoyable.
Yes Man: Crappy-looking. And yes, it looks just like Liar Liar, except that instead of always telling the truth, he always has to say "yes." Or some stupid shit like that.
The Tale of Despereaux: This looks cute, and it's got some really great actors playing the voice roles.
Nothing But the Truth: Meh.
Bedtime Stories: Double meh.
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button: That's a stunning promo picture/still/whatever it's called. Are there any advance reviews of this movie? Great? Sucky? It's Fincher so I'll be there, but it's Blanchett so I won't be all that thrilled about it.
Marley and Me: This one's getting a lot of hype from the media. I don't get it. I do like dogs and think they are adorable, however.
The Spirit: Too much Sin City redux, down to the hodgepodge yet still bizarrely awesome cast.
Revolutionary Road: I'M SO THERE. This is the one movie I am totally determined to see this holiday season. I worry the super late release date will doom it in awards season, but... it's Kate and Leo. It should get attention. Right?
Valkyrie: My friend and I saw a commercial for this one and couldn't stop laughing. NEXT.
Defiance: It could be really great, but... it's Edward Zwick. Ew, semi-colon not so much.
Anne Hathaway's going to get a fucking Oscar nomination this year, isn't she? Shit.

MOOOOVIE POST!
I saw Burn After Reading. It's hilarious, but the Coen brothers are misanthropes. Still, for black comedy it doesn't make you feel uncomfortable, because the humor's so freakin' zany (there's a moment with George Clooney and a chair that you gotta see to believe). Sometimes that works to the film's disadvantage, and no character in it is as vividly painted or obviously loved as Marge Gunderson (which is why Fargo isn't bleak), but it's still a good movie. Brad Pitt grabs the movie early on and runs off with it. He's absolutely fantastic. Overall, I'll give it a B.

EW's 20 Fall Movies We Can't Wait to See.
20. Burn After Reading
Yes. It looks hilarious, and I've officially been pulled in by the Coen brothers again, after years of being ridiculously uneven. And I love the poster!
19. Eagle Eye
I wasn't even aware this was a movie until this article. Shia LaBeouf is, by law, always the best part about a bad movie (still haven't seen that fourth Indiana Jones movie though, whoopsy-daisy). So, this seems to infer it'll be bad. My girl Rosario's in it though, so.
18. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist
Michael Cera playing "cute" again (but OMG, gay cute! what range!) and a really dumb, "LOOK HOW QUIRKY WE ARE" synopsis? I'm not rushing out to see this one, but who knows. I thought Juno looked terrible from the trailer.
17. Body of Lies
Even though Ridley's latest work has been lackluster, I'll gladly see anything starring Leo and Russell, and written by William Monahan (I can't get over how amazing The Departed's screenplay was). 100. South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut
Yes yes very yes. I still say this is easily one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, and it's smart and incisive too. I'm not such a fan of the series - it's verrrry uneven, even in the earlier seasons - but this is just amazing.
99. The Blair Witch Project
I never really liked it, but it is a horror classic already.
98. The Talented Mr. Ripley
The more I think about this movie, the more I like it. It's beautiful and layered and well-acted. Plus, it introduced most of us to Jude Law... *drools*
97. Glory
It's okay. I haven't seen it in a while. Morgan Freeman and Denzel Washington are terrific, of course.
96. Far from Heaven
I'm glad it's so low. It's a good movie, but very overrated.

Great Glenn. Lousy movie.
53. The Truman Show
Very smart and funny. Plus, one of the very few Jim Carrey performances where I don't want to staple something to his head (he still didn't deserve an Oscar nod for it, BTW).

Absolutely. Fantastic movie, and totally audacious.
50. The Piano
I saw this for the first time... last summer? and I was surprised by how much I liked it, honestly. I thought it was going to be feminist bullshit, but it was incredibly alive and, yeah, kinda sexy, even when you consider that was Harvey Keitel's dick you saw.
49. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Easily one of the best martial arts films ever, quite frankly. Ang Lee is so much better when he sticks with non-English.
48. Scarface
Again, a film that's totally audacious and has gigantic balls, but actually has the quality to back it up too.
47. Men in Black
I so love this movie, but it's not great.
46. Children of Men
As I revisit it, it occurs to me that it's kind of overrated, or at least those long shots are. It's still totally terrific, though, and one of the best of the new millennium.
45. Rain Man
I hate it. I also think Dustin Hoffman is awful in it.
44. The Player
... but you made up for it with this one, Entertainment Weekly. It's fairly forgotten already, but God, it's so great and smart. Tim Robbins is awesome.

Screw the haters, I think it's terrific. Russell Crowe pretty much defines "force of personality" here.

It's an okay movie, but Julia Roberts is totally charming and wonderful in it. That's about the only aspect I can recommend it for, though.

Even after how effing fantastic Iron Man was, this is still my favorite superhero movie of all time. It's so great and utter fun.

So deep in analyzing the lives of superheroes that it's almost boring. Not bad, but any Pixar movie save Cars is far better.

Yes, it's definitely already a classic, and even with how damn good No Country was, it's still probably my favorite Coen brothers film. Oh, Steve Buscemi.

I thought it was a pretty bad movie, but it is a classic, unfortunately. Everyone should see it.

Though this movie isn't necessarily as smart as it thinks it is, oh dear lord it is so funny. It definitely deserves its place here, as well, as people still talk about it, and will for a long long time.

I'm pleased it's so low; I thought it would be top 10 for sure. That said, yes, people will be discussing it for years to come, but the same goes for Crash.

God, do I ever love Boogie Nights. I just took it out of the library at my college and rewatched it right before I left in May, and it's so great, funny, touching, and well-acted. Plus, a giant prosthetic penis! Who doesn't love that.

I'm thrilled EW recognized this, as it's nearly as good as Manhattan or Annie Hall, but it doesn't get a lot of people talking about it like those two. That said, I think I prefer Crimes and Misdemeanors, but either is A+.
6. Saving Private Ryan
As a great movie on its own? Yes. Over Schindler's List? No fucking way. And it's not this great. Shakespeare in Love did, indeed, deserve that Oscar.
5. Toy Story
YES. It literally has everything you could want in a movie (except maybe sex, for obvious reasons).
4. Blue Velvet
It's a little high here, but I love the hell out of this movie. It's so fucked-up that I can't help but love it.
3. Titanic
Duh. I don't care what y'all say, I think this movie is terrific and totally affecting despite some pretty clunky dialogue.

Okay. 1983-2008, and they don't have American Beauty, The Shawshank Redemption, Amadeus, or Forrest Gump? I know these movies have their critics and I often see where they're coming from, but these are undoubtedly new classics that will be watched and discussed for years, more so than Casino Royale (I still can't get over that it's #19) for God's sake.
And of course, I've got a bone to pick with the TV list. The Office is only #61, getting beaten by crap like Desperate Housewives and Xena: Warrior Princess, while the original is #17? And 30 Rock is #47? I know 30 Rock is the new NBC critics' darling, but come on. Freaks and Geeks is #13? Really, Entertainment Weekly, how much did Judd Apatow blow you? (That was repulsive and inappropriate, and I don't care)
But, overall: pretty good list. I don't think you can have these kinds of lists without someone somewhere bitching about them.

Very smart and funny. Plus, one of the very few Jim Carrey performances where I don't want to staple something to his head (he still didn't deserve an Oscar nod for it, BTW).

Absolutely. Fantastic movie, and totally audacious.
50. The Piano
I saw this for the first time... last summer? and I was surprised by how much I liked it, honestly. I thought it was going to be feminist bullshit, but it was incredibly alive and, yeah, kinda sexy, even when you consider that was Harvey Keitel's dick you saw.
49. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Easily one of the best martial arts films ever, quite frankly. Ang Lee is so much better when he sticks with non-English.
48. Scarface
Again, a film that's totally audacious and has gigantic balls, but actually has the quality to back it up too.
47. Men in Black
I so love this movie, but it's not great.
46. Children of Men
As I revisit it, it occurs to me that it's kind of overrated, or at least those long shots are. It's still totally terrific, though, and one of the best of the new millennium.
45. Rain Man
I hate it. I also think Dustin Hoffman is awful in it.
44. The Player
... but you made up for it with this one, Entertainment Weekly. It's fairly forgotten already, but God, it's so great and smart. Tim Robbins is awesome.
43. Gladiator
Screw the haters, I think it's terrific. Russell Crowe pretty much defines "force of personality" here.
42. Clueless
Oh my God, I love this movie so much. It's very funny and totally sweet. Plus, Paul Rudd = HOT.
41. Dazed and Confused

It's definitely a good action movie, but it's not really a great movie, if you know what I mean. It still deserves its place on the list, because it'll be watched for years to come.
39. The Sixth Sense
Absolutely. I'm amazed by how affecting this movie still is today, in the wake of how lousy M. Night Shamaylan's other movies are. What the hell happened to him, anyway?
38. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Abso-fuckin'-lutely. In fact, it should be even higher. I wouldn't complain if it was top 10.
37. Pretty Woman
It's an okay movie, but Julia Roberts is totally charming and wonderful in it. That's about the only aspect I can recommend it for, though.
36. Spider-Man 2
Even after how effing fantastic Iron Man was, this is still my favorite superhero movie of all time. It's so great and utter fun.
35. The Incredibles
So deep in analyzing the lives of superheroes that it's almost boring. Not bad, but any Pixar movie save Cars is far better.
34. Fargo
Yes, it's definitely already a classic, and even with how damn good No Country was, it's still probably my favorite Coen brothers film. Oh, Steve Buscemi.
33. The Breakfast Club
I thought it was a pretty bad movie, but it is a classic, unfortunately. Everyone should see it.
32. Fight Club
Though this movie isn't necessarily as smart as it thinks it is, oh dear lord it is so funny. It definitely deserves its place here, as well, as people still talk about it, and will for a long long time.
31. Brokeback Mountain
I'm pleased it's so low; I thought it would be top 10 for sure. That said, yes, people will be discussing it for years to come, but the same goes for Crash.
30. When Harry Met Sally...
Best romantic comedy ever?
29. The Bourne Supremacy
Far too high, but these three movies are still great.
28. Wings of Desire
It's an amazing movie, but totally forgotten by the viewing public.
27. Aliens
Yep, this movie kicks ass. I can't ever decide whether I like this one or Alien better, though.
26. Hoop Dreams
It's a really good movie, and actually pretty underrated.
25. Shrek
I love that EW doesn't hate it, because it's become sadly trendy to do so. I still think it's wonderful, funny, and full of heart.
24. A Room with a View
... I guess? This movie is totally forgotten and not all that great (though it's good and all).
23. Memento
It's definitely influenced many films since it, so I guess it's a classic. It's a really good movie, too.
22. Rushmore
WTF? Does anyone remember this movie? I love it, but it's far from a classic.
21. Schindler's List
Only #21?! That's bullshit. If any sort of real "classic," embraced by the public and all that, emerged from the time period EW is looking in, it's either this movie or The Shawshank Redemption.
20. The Lion King
YES. Screw Beauty and the Beast or The Little Mermaid (not that those two movies aren't amazing), this is my favorite Disney movie of all time.
19. Casino Royale
#19? WOW. I like this movie and all, but could it be more overrated here?
18. Do the Right Thing
YES. Everyone knows I love Crash and all that, but this is the ultimate movie about race relations. It's amazing.
17. Jerry Maguire
Totally sweet and charming. I love Tom Cruise in it. I'm not sure it deserves to be quite so high, but it is a great movie.
16. Boogie Nights
God, do I ever love Boogie Nights. I just took it out of the library at my college and rewatched it right before I left in May, and it's so great, funny, touching, and well-acted. Plus, a giant prosthetic penis! Who doesn't love that.
15. Edward Scissorhands
I don't care for it, of course. I just think it's kind of... meh.
14. Crumb
I've never seen it, because I really don't like that guy's work. No one ever talks about this movie, so yeah... if you were going for documentaries with impact, you could have chosen Fahrenheit 9/11 or whatever.
13. Goodfellas
YES. This should have been top 10, easy.
12. The Matrix
It's not a good movie at all, but it deserves its place here for its cultural impact.
11. This Is Spinal Tap
HAHA HOW MUCH DO I LOVE THAT THIS IS #11. SO MUCH. Yes, this movie is so awesome.
10. Moulin Rouge!
Oh my GOD, YES!
9. Die Hard
Maybe the best action movie ever. I'm thrilled to see it so high.
8. The Silence of the Lambs
It might be a little overrated, but it's definitely high-quality and constantly discussed, so I can't complain.
7. Hannah and Her Sisters
I'm thrilled EW recognized this, as it's nearly as good as Manhattan or Annie Hall, but it doesn't get a lot of people talking about it like those two. That said, I think I prefer Crimes and Misdemeanors, but either is A+.
6. Saving Private Ryan
As a great movie on its own? Yes. Over Schindler's List? No fucking way. And it's not this great. Shakespeare in Love did, indeed, deserve that Oscar.
5. Toy Story
YES. It literally has everything you could want in a movie (except maybe sex, for obvious reasons).
4. Blue Velvet
It's a little high here, but I love the hell out of this movie. It's so fucked-up that I can't help but love it.
3. Titanic
Duh. I don't care what y'all say, I think this movie is terrific and totally affecting despite some pretty clunky dialogue.
2. The Lord of the Rings trilogy
I don't love them, but they are really good movies, and undeniable classics.
1. Pulp Fiction
Oh HELL yes. And that's all I gotta say to that.
Okay. 1983-2008, and they don't have American Beauty, The Shawshank Redemption, Amadeus, or Forrest Gump? I know these movies have their critics and I often see where they're coming from, but these are undoubtedly new classics that will be watched and discussed for years, more so than Casino Royale (I still can't get over that it's #19) for God's sake.
And of course, I've got a bone to pick with the TV list. The Office is only #61, getting beaten by crap like Desperate Housewives and Xena: Warrior Princess, while the original is #17? And 30 Rock is #47? I know 30 Rock is the new NBC critics' darling, but come on. Freaks and Geeks is #13? Really, Entertainment Weekly, how much did Judd Apatow blow you? (That was repulsive and inappropriate, and I don't care)
But, overall: pretty good list. I don't think you can have these kinds of lists without someone somewhere bitching about them.

The season finale's title is...
... "Goodbye, Toby."
Awwww.
Oh, I so cannot wait to see Michael's goodbye to him.
(Please don't make this another "Casino Night"? Toby's feelings for Pam aren't how Jim feels. And it's kind of funny that for all of Michael's insanity, all his talk about how creepy Toby is actually has turned out to be more than a little true as of late. It further proves - Michael is a decent guy. Adding this up to all the "Jim = Michael" stuff this season has had... maybe it's trying to show that the thing that redeems Jim Halpert is his love for Pam.)
(Oh, and after hearing that the season finale is "super twisty"... I miiiight be thinking that it isn't actually Toby that leaves. Oh writers, please feel free to eff with our heads...as long as you keep Jim and Pam together and happy, ya bastards ;) )
(I know, I know. I should go write about movies. This is a movie blog. Really. But you know what? I've had noooo time. I still haven't seen Leatherheads. I can wait until the DVD for Forgetting Sarah Marshall. There's a new Office every week [until May 15, anyway], and they don't involve trekking to movie theaters and they're only half an hour long. We're in post-Oscar-films-in-theaters, pre-summer-movie-spectacular, so there's almost nothing I want to see [except Leatherheads, and trust me when I say I've had no time.]. Blarrrr. But I'll be back in full force soon.)
