hmmm

I'm watching Kill Bill, Vol. II right now and it never really struck me before, but for a director that's such a genius with sound effects and music, this movie is really, really quiet a good amount of the time. And it totally works. Ugh Quentin baby, I love you.

AAAAH YAAAAY

Kill Bill 3 in 2014? YES! And hey, let's face it, at this rate, it'll probably be out before Sin City 2.

sigh

The fact that Quentin Tarantino's new movie is called Inglourious Basterds is going to drive me completely insane. Really, even people in England, is that correct?

Also, Brad Pitt + Quentin Tarantino = ... (crickets chirp...) I dunno, they don't seem like their style would... mesh.

This movie better be good if it took away amazingly funny S5 Ryan. Seriously, I feel like how fucking hysterical he was for the little screentime he got was desperately undersaid. Apparently he's going to come back a "changed man." I'm HOPING HOPING HOPING he joined a cult and shaved his head and wears a cassock. THAT WOULD BE AMAZING.

biggest difference in attractiveness EVER?

In other news, how much was Shoot 'Em Up trying to be Tarantino, but at times, pretty fully landing on the side of "tasteless" that he manages to avoid? How was it still pretty entertaining nevertheless? B-

Atonement won't get out of my head. Great great movie... I'm going to see it again this weekend, along with The Savages (I'm still praying Laura gets that longshot Oscar nom but...it is a long shot, isn't it?).

At the late night double feature picture show...

I WANNA GO! oh oh OHHH!

Planet Terror: B+
Death Proof: A-
Grindhouse: A-, and the biggest blast I've had at the movies in a long, long time

I am terrified.

Grindhouse finished below Are We There Yet? at the box office. Seriously, people!!! I know, I didn't do my part to go see Grindhouse, but I haven't seen ANY 2007 movies so far save Epic Movie which doesn't fuckin' count. Sad, I know, but some of us thought it would be a good idea to take three writing intensive classes in one semester. But the real sad thing is that Grindhouse was #4 this weekend. Yeah yeah yeah, I know it was Easter weekend, but still. People. Rose McGowan with a machine gun for a leg. Bruce Willis as some kind of crazy zombie leader or something. A GODDAMN QUENTIN TARANTINO MOVIE!!! How do you NOT want to see that shit?!?!?!

i have problems...

...with people who say shit like "oh Persona is my favorite movie" (or Passion of Joan of Arc, or Au hasard Balthazar or however you spell it because I can't be bothered to look it up). Especially if these people are younger than I am. Like, on IMDb there's a sixteen-year-old girl with the following as her top 10 movies ever:

1. Taxi Driver
2. Apocolypse Now
3. The Third Man
4. The 400 Blows
5. Aguirre, the Wrath of God
6. Tokyo Story (!)
7. On the Waterfront
8. Chinatown
9. Sunset Boulevard
10. Persona
also on her top 100 list: Solaris (the '72 version), Scenes from a Marriage, The Nights of Cabiria, The Bicycle Thief, The Passion of Joan of Arc, Andrei Rubelev, Fitzcarraldo, The Battle of Algiers, All Quiet on the Western Front, Koyaanisqatsi (this was the one that REALLY pissed me off), Hiroshima Mon Amour, and Battleship Potemkin, among others

Seriously? Yeah, film is meant to enlighten us and be intelligent and all that. I'm not saying it's not. But my God, it's meant to entertain us too. Quite frankly, I'd rather watch Mean Girls again than any Bergman (save maybe Smiles of a Summer Night but even there, the pacing drags). Is Mean Girls a better movie than The Seventh Seal, or Scenes from a Marriage, or Cries and Whispers? Of course not. But I still enjoy it more.

of course, occasionally we get the film that combines great insight/excellent filmmaking with a great time (thank you, any Quentin Tarantino movie...though I guess the "great insight" thing doesn't apply there), and that's the best of both worlds, but these are pathetically rare, especially, and it's sad for me to say this, in all the "classics" we're all supposed to see. What to do, what to do.

happy birthday to a motherfucking genius (the language is in his honor)

we get it, quentin, you like uma

"Normally, both your asses would be dead as fucking fried chicken, but you happen to pull this shit while I'm in a transitional period so I don't wanna kill you, I wanna help you. But I can't give you this case, it don't belong to me. Besides, I've already been through too much shit this morning over this case to hand it over to your dumb ass."

Yeah, Quentin Tarantino is one of the most annoying people ever put on planet Earth. But you know what? He's also one of the most talented directors ever put on planet Earth, so it sort of balances out. Whatever you want to say about him, you can't deny that he has the ability to take tons of shit from other things and make them truly his own. Pulp Fiction is the best movie ever with the best screenplay ever. I do not exaggerate that statement. Plus, he's the only one who knows what the fuck to do with Uma Thurman (see the picture above, which still cracks me up. Uh, Quentin, her face is up there.). My ranking of his movies:

1. Pulp Fiction (A+, and my favorite movie ever.)
2. Kill Bill (A+ together, an A for both volumes)
3. Jackie Brown (A-/A)
4. Reservoir Dogs (A-)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Now get cranking on some more movies. Can't fuckin' wait for Grindhouse!!
